Hack your skincare to match your menstrual cycle

to help minimise effects of the hormonal curveball Mother Nature throws your way… Very few are immune to at least the occasional PMS pimple.

But actually, fluctuating levels of hormones throughout your 28-day menstrual cycle mean that your skin is continually undergoing changes.

A balanced complexion can mean balanced emotions, and balanced emotions = a happier you 😊

So, if you pay a little more attention to your hormones and give slightly more thought to your regime, you could find the results are much more than skin deep.

Week 1 (Begin counting on the first day of your period)

Your body: Amounts of all three hormones drop to their lowest levels during these 28 days.

Your skin: Oil production slows down, making skin drier than usual and may appear dull. Progesterone (the hormone responsible for inflammation) has dipped, you may also experience skin sensitivity and tenderness.

Your routine: Even if acne is an issue for you, your skin needs moisture right now. So lather up! Hyaluronic acid serum or an oil-free moisturizer. Avoid over exfoliating and using any harsh topicals.

Don’t miss your daily Q-Rejuvalight Pro Anti–Ageing Treatment. It’ll help to smoothe inflammation, boost hydration deep within the skin, whilst speed up healing from any post breakout marks that you might have from breakouts in the week before.

Combat dullness by getting rid of dead surface cells with gentle exfoliating ingredients such as lactic acid. (Find it in our All–In–One Face Serum)

Week 2

Your body: Estrogen levels begin to ramp back up, which stimulates the production of all-important collagen, elastin.

Your skin: Looking good! Your skin will begin to feel plumper, more refreshed, and not as tight or dry.

Your routine: Be proactive after your period ends by continuing daily LED light therapy treatments. Using topical skincare with Retinol or Bakuchiol (like in our All–In–One Face Serum) will help encourage cellular

turnover – setting you up for fresher skin later in your cycle.

Week 3

Your body: Ovulation starts, and estrogen levels reach their apex.

Your skin: This is the week when skin is generally at its absolute best! If you have a first date or an important job interview, schedule it during these seven days.

Your results: This is no time to rest on your laurels. Pretty soon (as in, the following week), you’re going to be dealing with a lot more oil.

So go on the offensive now by helping regulate oil production. Use Q–Rejuvalight Pro’s Anti–Breakout treatment consistently – The red and blue LEDs will help reduce inflammation, kill acne–causing bacteria and stabilize oil glands to keep the skin looking healthier overall.

Switching to a gentle exfoliating cleanser (that contains salicylic acid) will also help keep pores free of oil.

This all will set you up for success as you end the last week of your cycle – the time when breakouts are most likely to flare and turn ugly.

Week 4

Your body: You now have levels of estrogen and progesterone that are lower than the amount of testosterone in your body.

Your skin: Oil production skyrockets – and gets weird. Oil is thicker than usual and doesn’t flow easily to the skin’s surface.

Instead, it’s more likely to get stuck to dead cells also in the pore and cause a clog. This is where most women experience the PMS monthly pimple or flare up.

Your routine: Double, deep pore cleanse is the way to go. Avoid using heavy creams that might block your pores and increase the chances of breakouts.

Continue with chemical exfoliation, deep cleansing, and daily Q–Rejuvalight Pro Anti–Breakout LED treatments to help control the oil shine, inflammation and breakouts.
